Here are some easy and simple ways you can provide yourself with instrumentals and not have to spend $20.00 + on one beat. Don't get me wrong, there are some pretty good beats out there that aren't all too expensive, but then again you may be tight on cash and in some cases, it just may not be worth it. If you're a rap artist that has paid for beats in the past and is just sick and tired of it, there are other options for you.
1. PRODUCE THEM YOURSELF
Originality is key to success. If you don't want to pay for beats anymore, why don't you just make them yourself?! Believe it or not, you could be somewhat of a rap producer and have close to NO knowledge in beat making. All it takes is a little time and dedication and you could be the next Dr. Dre. The first software I used for making music was called Hip Hop eJay http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-2012497-Hip-eJay/dp/B00002SFNB. It was where an interface where you could simply drag music loops (drums, guitars, etc.) into the time line of the software and piece your beat together.
If you really want to learn to be a producer, you may want to get yourself Fruity Loops Studio (Windows software). http://www.image-line.com/documents/flstudio.html I currently use Fruity Loops and have been playing around with the software for a good 6-7 years and still learning how to fluently use it. For beginners, YouTube is a great way of learning. There are many helpful tutorials on how to get started with Fruity Loops on YouTube. Many producers today use FL Studio, as well as rap artists known as Lil Wayne and Souljah Boy, etc. The sky is the limit when it comes to Fruity Loops. There are endless things you could do with the program.Another good quality software for music producing is GarageBand (Mac software). I have produced many tracks using GarageBand. GarageBand has many different instruments to play around with a has a phenomenal recording feature called "musical typing" where you can record yourself playing a melody through the computer keyboard as if you were playing it on a piano keyboard. GarageBand also has loops you can drag into the time line and work with. It is all preference when it comes to music producing. The sky is the limit, no matter what software you use. Other softwares include Ableton Live, Pro Tools, etc. You can do endless amounts of things with your beats in Fruity Loops. I highly suggest using Fruity Loops to produce rap instrumentals.
